The history of the olive tree is much older than the history of the man. Well known is the myth which brings the appearance of the olive tree to the contention between Goddess Athena and Poseidon (Neptune) regarding the naming of the city of Athens. It has been established as the symbol of peace and it was considered a sacred tree and it was with branches of wild olive tree the so called "kotino" (olive twigs as a prize) that they used to the winners in the Olympic Games.
